Jumped on garda’s car

A Monasterevin woman who jumped onto an off-duty garda’s car has been warned by Judge Catherine Staines that the damage has to be paid for.

Marina McDonnell, 31 Abbeygate, Monasterevin, was convicted last July of criminal damage, at Drogheda Street, Monasterevin, on August 2, 2013.

McDonnell took exception after being asked to move along by an off-duty garda sergeant and jumped on his car, causing €472.60 damage. She was told to pay full compensation.

When the case returned last week, solicitor Mr Philip Meagher said that McDonnell did not have any compensation. After reading a probation report, Judge Staines noted that McDonnell was “a social drinker” and if she had saved even €5 a week she would have compensation to offer.

“This has to be paid for and it’s not going away,” said the judge.

The matter was put back to July 2.
