Another year of academic and extracurricular successes was marked last Wednesday May 13, at Portlaoise College’s annual awards evening.
Awards on the night were presented by RTE’s Marty Morrissey in front of an attendance of over 500 parents and students.
The sports commentator was impressed by their sporting successes, predicting even greater for Laois in the future.
“If Laois win an All-Ireland there won’t be a school open for a week,” he said.
A wide range of awards were presented including, volleyball, soccer, golf and subject and student of the year awards.
This year also saw the introduction of the Jim Doyle memorial award in memory of the school’s caretaker who passed away last year.
Mr Morrissey accompanied by Principal Noel Daly took time to view the work on display by while interviewing the students about their exploits during the year.
The evening also gave the parents an opportunity to see the excellent work completed by students during the year.
