Everything from ‘Uptown Funk’ to ‘Footloose’ was on offer at the recent Portlaoise College’s Talent Show, with a surprise performance of ‘What makes you Beautiful’ by ‘One Direction’ played by five nervous teachers, which got nationwide online attention.

Every year group was represented on stage, with singers, dancers and other fun talents that amazed the audience of parents, primary schools, students and staff.

Songs ranged from the 1960’s to current hits, including “Cool Kids”, “Uptown Funk” and songs from musicals Footloose, Sister Act and High-School Musical. There was a ‘stars in your eyes’ feel with celebrities Olly Murs (Ian Carroll 6th Yr), Emeli Sande (Kim Thi Huynh 5th Yr) and Taylor Swift (Jennifer Geoghegan 1st Yr).

Each year group united to take part in the ‘Battle of the Year Groups’. Mustafa Shitta stole the show with his dance moves to ‘Up-town Funk’ with his first year group, winning him Best Dancer award. The overall Battle of the Year Group award was given to the very energetic and well prepared Transition Year students, with a comical mash up of Rock Anthems.

It rounded off what has been another successful year in the music and arts department of Portlaoise College.
