Mountmellick town manager Ian McCormack has said that work on the playground will be completed by the end of the month. “It is very close and it will be done”, he said.

Cllr Bobby Delaney told the monthly meeting of Mountmellick Town Council that he had received a letter and photographs from a woman in the town.

“The issue in Mountmellick was on the main page of the local paper. I am very proud of the play park. A woman dropped in a letter to me. She noted that Cllr Payne had previously wanted a toilet in the park and she told me I was full of hot air saying things for the last year. I handed this letter to Ian and I said that this will be happening - the playground equipment will be going into the park in the next month”.

He added that it was a very slow issue, stating that “we have the equipment and we’ve got excuses. People in the town would be happy to see it finished. The park looks well but needs extra bits”.

Chairman Cllr Bracken said that there is a huge cost involved with the upkeep of the parks and it is the same all over the county. “It will be up and running in the next few weeks”.
