It's that time of year again - time to dust off the gladrags and support the tenth annual Portarlington Gala Ball.
Friday, February 26 is the date for this year’s event, which the glamorous trio - Maria Molloy, Colette Kennedy and Marie Corcorn promise will live up to all expectations.
“This year we have decided that the Portarlington Senior Citizens will be our charity of choice. They have helped to build us up and make us who we are today, so it’s good to give a little back,” Maria Molloy said.
The night offers a four course meal, with wine on all the tables, and a chance to win some fabulous prizes.
Gerald Keane and Lisa Murphy will once again be in attendance.
“We're very lucky to have Gerald and Lisa coming down once again. Gerald has been very good to us over the last few years, giving his time for free.”
Maria continued: “We're delighted to have them back with us once again.”
The ball is one of the highlights in the Laois social calendar, and a crowd of around 400 will be expected to attend.
To date the three ladies have raised well in excess of €100,000 for local charities such as The Cuisle Centre, Portlaoise Paediatric Unit, St Vincents Hospital, Mountmellick; The Kolbe Centre, Portlaoise; the local branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association, Lourdes Committee, Portarlington, Portarlington Lions Club, LOFFA, Portarlington Boys Scouts, Portarlington Special Olympics Club, Laois Hospice and St Frances School, Portlaoise.
For the tenth anniversary, the ladies have decided to go with a masquerade ball.
“It's a great opportunity to get dressed up, to get the hair and make up done and have a great night out while supporting a very worthy cause,” Maria said.
The gala ball has become renowned as the glamour night of the year in the Heritage Golf and Spa hotel in Killenard. Marie, Maria and Collette thank all those who have supported them throughout the last seven years.
The famous Keith McDonald showband will once again provide the entertainment.
“We will be holding a raffle on the night if any one is in a position to donate a raffle prize for the night we would be delighted to receive it,” Maria added.
