Mountmellick and Portlaoise came out in support recently for two coffee mornings in aid of palliative care in Laois.
Anne Geoghegan, proprietor of charity shops in each town, is thrilled at the support for her fundraisers.
In Portlaoise the coffee morning raised €650, and in Mountmellick it raised €835.
“Local shopkeepers gave spot prizes and we sold tickets, and our volunteers and the local community baked. JL Sound volunteered the music. Despite very wet days lots of people came out in support and I would like to thank everyone for making the days such a huge success,” said Ms Geoghegan.
The cheques were presented last Wednesday July 13 to Mary Delaney, secretary of Laois Hospice.
Ms Geoghegan’s hospice shops are staffed by volunteers, and a monthly contribution goes to Laois Hospice from their profits.
“We have great support from people donating lovely items of clothing, and visiting the shops. I would like to thank them and ask them to keep it up,” she said.
