47-year-old man killed in car crash

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the death last week of a 47-year-old man in a car crash in Portlaoise.

Mr Dixton Larkin, with an address at Borrisokane, Co, Tipperary, was fatally injured when his 01 D registration silver Volvo S40 saloon car crashed on the M7 at Ballymacken, Portlaoise, at around 9.55pm on the night of Thursday, March 27.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to the Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise.

A garda spokesperson has confirmed to the Leinster Express that Mr Larkin was the lone occupant of the car and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The roadway at the scene was closed for a forensic collision examination, but the road has since reopened.

Witnesses that may have been travelling between Junction 16 and Junction 17 around the time of the collision are asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 8674100, or the confidential line 1800 666 111.
