A new bus service to south Laois, run by a local private bus company, is starting next Monday, November 19.
M&A Coaches from Ballyraggett are taking over from the temporary service provided by Bus Eireann, put in place after protests on the discontinuation of their stops at Johnstown, Cullahill, Durrow and Abbeyleix on their Dublin to Cork daily route.
The service will operate a twice daily run, including early morning and late evening to suit commuters, seven days a week. It will be officially launched this Saturday in the Castle Arms Hotel, Durrow at 3pm and all who have an interest in using the new service are invited to come and meet the managing director, Michael Dowling. Michael G Phelan, member of the action committee who fought for a replacement service, welcomed the new route.
“It’s great news. So many people have been asking about the busses and they were afraid it wasn’t going to happen. It just shows, a bit of public pressure worked, and we have a new service that will probably be even better because it is local,” he said.
