A married man who drove with his wife and children in a car without having insurance or a licence, was disqualified for four years and fined.
Mr Michael McDonagh, of 4 Market Place, Portlaoise, faced Judge Catherine Staines on four charges at Portlaoise District Court last Thursday, January 17,
He was charged with having no insurance, no licence and failing to produce either, when he was stopped by Gardaí on the Mountmellick road, Portlaoise, on February 11 last year.
His solicitor Philip Meagher said his client’s wife was expecting their third child, and they were in receipt of social welfare.
“On the date, he had purchased a vehicle for a small sum, his wife required transport with their children, and he foolishly drove it home”, he said.
Judge Catherine Staines also fined Mr McDonagh €400.
