A Portlaoise woman has been given community service in lieu of prison for stealing bottles of aftershave.
Lisa Kane, Chantiere Gate, Portlaoise, committed the theft at Boots, Laois Shopping Centre, Portlaoise, on March 20 this year.
Inspector Aidan Farrelly gave evidence that she stole three bottles of aftershave, valued at approximately €89. She was arrested and made full admissions to gardaí.
Kane had 21 previous convictions.
“Why did she have to steal?” asked Judge Catherine Staines.
Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick said there was no explanation for the theft, it had been “opportunistic”.
Judge Staines imposed 150 hours’ community service in lieu of six months in prison.
