A 67-year-old Laois man has been charged with six counts of rape.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at last week’s district court in Portlaoise charged with the offences, which are alleged to have occurred in the county in the 1980s.
There was no garda objection to bail, but the man must have no contact with the injured party or any witness in the case. He was granted bail on his own bond of €100.
The matter has gone back to November 20 for the serving of a book of evidence. The DPP directs the man be returned for trial to the Central Criminal Court.
