Acragar road in Mountmellick where water mains are currently being upgraded is “in an atrocious state” according to Cllr Paddy Bracken, speaking at the Mountmellick Borris in Ossory municipal district December meeting.
He understood that road repairs in Acragar were postponed because the water pipes were to be replaced, but the road itself is not now being dug up.
“Regarding the Irish Water works on Acragar road, from the cemetery to Willow Grove is in an atrocious state. My understanding was this work was put off partly because of this job, but I see now they are laying the pipes under the paths. I want it addressed, both the drains and surface are in a desperate state,” he said.
Council engineer Brenda Cuddy agreed.
“I was looking at it last week, we will have our road strengthening budget next year and we will be presenting the programme before yourselves to be agreed by councillors,” she said.
