Parking charges suggested for Durrow

A lack of parking by-laws in Durrow is causing problems for shoppers and delivery vans, now worsened by improvement works in the square, according to Cllr James Kelly.

“Business is probably down 30 to 50 percent. I understand it has to be done but cars are parking for a full day or even the week. People are suffering big time,” he said.

“Without by laws, nothing can be done. Mountrath and Durrow would hugely benefit if they had paid parking,” said council engineer Brenda Cuddy, at the December meeting of Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick district.

“ We had a load of cars in the square in Mountmellick for years until by-laws were introduced,” said Cllr Paddy Bracken.
