A man who had his bags packed and was ready to leave a house in Portlaoise abused the gardaí when they arrived at the scene, the district court heard.

Noel Moran, now living at 279 Bushy Park, Terenure, Dublin, was charged with being intoxicated and using threatening behaviour, at Bruach Na hAbhainn, Portlaoise, on January 26 this year.

Inspector Aidan Farrelly gave evidence that there was an incident at Bruach Na hAbhainn and when gardaí arrived Moran became abusive after being asked his name and address.

Moran had one previous conviction.

Defence, Mr Philip Meagher said there had been a gathering at the house and an incident occurred outside, which upset Moran so much he made the decision to leave the house. He had his bags packed and was waiting outside when the gardaí arrived.

The matter was put back to May 7 for a probation report.
