A Portarlington estate abandoned by developers has finally been taken in charge by Laois County Council.

A Portarlington estate abandoned by developers has finally been taken in charge by Laois County Council.

The largest estate is Crann Nua, Edenderry road, Portarlington, to cost almost €9,000 a year. The estate had been left incomplete for years causing big problems fro residents who bought homes there.

“There are up to 200 houses, not including the apartment block. A huge amount of work has been done to realign the road, create a green area and do lighting, it’s a good day for the people of Crann Nua,” said Cllr Tom Mulhall.

Meanwhile, part of another unfished estate, Aghnaharna Drive in Portlaoise, will cost €3,120 for lights and €3,000 for maintenance annually. It is part of a larger estate where other houses remain boarded up.

In Newtown, Crettyard, Miners Walk and Clarney Hall in Rathdowney has also been taken in charge.
