Laois has been awarded the contract to host the Rose of Tralee Regional Finals for another three years.
Tourism Officer with Laois County Council Dominic Reddin confirmed the news as he boarded a bus full of Rose finalists on their way to visit Portarlington today (Friday), the hometown of Laois Rose Niamh Bracken.
“We are delighted to have it for another three years. We will again be working with the Maldron and Heritage Hotel, and with Castle Durrow. It is a prestigious event and means a lot for tourism for the county,” he said.
For the past five years, Irish and international Roses have gathered in Portlaoise for the semi-finals of the festival. With their families and supporters in tow, they have given a valuable injection of cash to the local economy, from hotels and b&bs to pubs and shops. With a packed itinerary for the long weekend, it has also been an ideal tourism showcase for the county, with Emo Court, Castle Durrow and Killenard on the intinerary. This year Abbeyfest, Abbeyleix cultural festival, is coinciding nicely with the Regional Final.
Final selection takes place this Sunday night at The Heritage Hotel Portlaosie, when the 23 Roses who will travel to Tralee in August will be announced.
