Toilet wanted for Mountmellick park - council

Parents are bringing their children into the Standex factory to use the facilities, according to Mountmellick Town Councillor Ollie Payne.

He wants the council to install a public toilet in the park in Irishtown.

“This is a problem that is coming to a height with summer on the way. The restaurant are not allowing anyone in to use the toilet. The firestation is only four yards from the park boundary, it wouldn’t be too expensive. We have tempted children into staying for hours, but they have no toilet,” he said.

Town Manager Ian McCormac replied that no other playground in Laois has a public convenience.

“We will have a look, but there are 15 other playgrounds with no toilet,” he said.

Cllrs Delaney, Lynch and Bracken all complimented the park, which is soon to get swings.

“I would like to thank the Tidy Town committee on the new flowerboxes, if a little bit is added every year, it will be the park of the county,” said Cllr Delaney.
