RTE’s Primetime recent focus on wind turbines in the midlands featured Laois speaker Henry Fingleton, chairman of People Over Wind, and also Eddie O’Connor, CEO of Mainstream, who angered audience members by laughing, later issuing an apology.

Mr Fingleton believes the program went in favour of their campaign, and says makers are keen to do a follow up.

“It would have been much better if someone from government was there. This is between the people and the government, the companies will try to make money if they can, but the government are effectively promoting them because they haven’t put regulations in place,” he said.

POW are seeking a bigger setback from houses, and a ban on planning applications until new guidelines are set.

“But before that, look at windturbines and see are they effective,” he said, adding that 40 protest groups will soon be formed in the midlands.
