Annie O’Donoghue, 70 Hyde Rd, Prospect, Limerick, was caught passing a package to her son at the Midlands Prison on August 13. Inside was cannabis herb valued at €300, and cannabis resin worth €50.

Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick said O’Donoghue had made no gain from the drugs. Ms Fitzpatrick said her client thought it was steroids, for her son to use in the gym.

Judge Staines imposed a six month sentence, suspended for two years.
