Jonathan Porter, 13 The Birches, Kilnacourt Woods, Portarlington, was charged with being intoxicated and using threatening behaviour in public, at Main Street, Port, on July 31 last year.

Inspector Martin Harrington said Porter was observed staggering off the street onto the road at around 9.30pm, before he fell against a wall. When the gardaí attempted to lift him he became abusive which led to his arrest.

He has four previous convictions.

Judge Staines sentenced him to 150 hours’ community service in lieu of three months in prison and ordered him to complete an alcohol awareness course. The matter was put back to July 12.
