Plans are well advanced for this year’s Portlaoise parish annual novena.

Plans are well advanced for this year’s Portlaoise parish annual novena.

This year’s novena will follow a more intense experience over nine days beginning on Saturday, February 28 and concluding on Sunday, March 8.

This is an occasion of great blessing for the parish community to gather together in prayer and worship every Wednesday evening at 7.30pm for the celebration of eucharist.

An important element to this novena will be praying for personal petitions.

These petitions will be remembered and prayed for throughout the novena.

The parish are delighted each week to welcome excellent speakers who will speak words of hope and encouragement.

The novena will be celebrated at the following masses every day:

Saturday, February 28: 7am, 10am, 6.30pm, 12 midnight, Sunday, March 1: 8.30am, 10am, 11.15am,

12.30pm, 7.30pm, 12 midnight.

Monday 2nd - Friday 6th March: 7am, 10am, 12pm noon (for primary and secondary schools), 7.30pm, 12 midnight.

Saturday March 7: 7am, 10am, 6.30pm, 12midnight.

Sunday March 8: 8.30, 10, 11.15 12.30pm.

Guest celebrants and speakers will lead each day of novena.

The Portlaoise parish novena has always attracted high profile people to speak each night.

Last year’s speakers inlcuded Mickey Harte, Sr Consillio, Anne Doyle and Finburr and Elma Walsh - parents of the late Donal Walsh.

In previous years, the novena has been run over a number of weeks, but this year’s event will be run over nine consecutive nights with guest speakers and celebrants leading each day of the novena.
