All 94 pupils and even the principal Ruth Wallace had a chance to shine onstage in Abbeyleix South National School’s FunkyKids show last week.

The principal mimed her way through a ‘stand by your man’ sketch, to the delight of parents and pupils in the packed GP hall of the school.

Sellout shows were performed on June 9 and 11, repeating the success of the schools’ first Funkykids show two years ago.

They were the successful result of ten weekly workshops of singing, acting and dancing rehearsals, colourful costume making and backdrop design by pupils, led by Denis and Olivia Staunton of FunkyKids.

The children learned the Monster Mash, Grease Lightning, Ghostbusters, Bob the Builder, Thriller and even some Elvis songs.

“The ten sessions were fun all the way. Each and every child grew in confidence in a non-competitive environment. They learned to be creative and benefited magnificently. Our pupils, parents and teachers look forward to the next workshop in two years time,” said Ms Wallace.
