A Mountmellick man with 81 previous convictions has been sentenced to ten months in prison for smashing up a woman’s car with an iron bar.

A Mountmellick man with 81 previous convictions has been sentenced to ten months in prison for smashing up a woman’s car with an iron bar.

Michael Ryan, 66 Silverwood, Mountmellick, was charged with criminal damage, at 23 Jessop Street, Portlaoise, on August 8, 2011. Inspector John Lawless gave evidence that the injured party was in the kitchen of her house when she saw Ryan pull up outside. Ryan got out of his vehicle with an iron bar and proceeded to smash up her car, causing €1,000 damage.

Ryan is currently serving a sentence, with a release date of March 27, 2015.

Judge Staines imposed a ten-month sentence, to run concurrent with the sentence Ryan is already serving.
