Coppers late bar in Portlaoise narrowly avoided a conviction for serving people after hours, at Portlaoise District Court, last week.

Bradpower Ltd, 17 Market Square, Portlaoise were before the courts in relation to an investigation last summer.

Garda Inspector Aidan Farrelly told the court that the issue came to garda notice while police were investigating another serious incident on Sunday, June 10, 2012.

“They had no special exemption order in place and the last person left the premises at 3.15am. CCTV footage shows numerous people coming in and leaving and being served,” he said

Inspector Farrelly told the court that this prosecution related to one incident and Coppers was normally a “well run establishment”.

Sandra Mahon, defending, said her client had “overlooked the paperwork”.

“He has worked hard to develop the business over the last few years and got caught up in the day to day running of his business and overlooked the paperwork.”

Judge Staines ordered Bradpower Ltd to make a €500 donation to the court poor box to avoid a conviction.
