Councillor Willie Aird has called on Laois County Council to provide a traffic management plan for the relief road from the Timahoe Road to the Stradbally Road, before the council is faced with another Borris Road debacle.
“We haven’t a proper infrastructure in place for the new schools,” he said at the meeting of the Portlaoise Electoral Area, warning that “councillors would be hung out to dry” just as they had been over the management plan on the Borris Road.
“I have to have answers for people, the whole new road will be blocked up,” he added.
Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald said a meeting was needed with the roads department.
“We’re receiving a lot of complaints about the traffic management in place there,” she said.
“Look at the Stradbally Road end, it’s an accident waiting to happen,” said Cllr Rotimi Adebari.
In a written reply from Mr PJ Dempsey, it was said that the future provision of traffic lights at this junction is a priority for the council.
