No funding to improve dangerous crossroads

People shouldn’t have to wait until 2015 for the council to make safe the “very dangerous” junction at Brandra Cross.

So declared Cllr John Joe Fennelly at County Hall recently. He had proposed a motion calling on the council to upgrade the signs and line marking at Brandra Cross, Abbeyleix.

He was informed in a written reply from PJ Dempsey, senior planner with road design, that funding will not be considered until next year’s Safety Improvement Scheme.

“I’m not happy with that response,” said Cllr Fennelly. “It’s one of the most dangerous crossroads, I’m only asking for proper marking and signs. We shouldn’t have to wait until 2015. Just spend €1,000 and do the marking.”
