A Portlaoise woman was last week ordered to undertake a course educating her on drug use after being convicted of possessing cannabis.

A Portlaoise woman was last week ordered to undertake a course educating her on drug use after being convicted of possessing cannabis.

Georgina Flynn, of Ballytegan, Portlaoise, was charged with possession at Emo Court, Portlaoise, on April 18.

Inspector Aidan Farrelly told the district court that Flynn was caught with cannabis herb valued at €50.

She had no previous convictions.

Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick said Flynn had been using the drug recreationally for some time, but has not taken matters in hand.

The matter was put back to January 22, for Flynn to complete the Athy Alternative Project.
