Knockbeg boxer is a knockout

Knockbeg College student Shane Bolger did his school, family, Tolerton boxing club and indeed Ireland proud, when he won a gold medal in an international boxing tournament in Latvia last weekend.

Knockbeg College student Shane Bolger did his school, family, Tolerton boxing club and indeed Ireland proud, when he won a gold medal in an international boxing tournament in Latvia last weekend.

As team captain Shane led out the Irish team and also carried the National flag. In the ring he beat an opponent from the Czech Republic in the semi- final and had a unanimous points victory over his Russian opponent in the gold medal bout.

Congratulations also to showjumper Seamus Dermody, who won the individual derby event at the inter-schools competition in Wexford at the weekend.

Seamus along with Michael Pender, Shea Byrne and Shane Ryan were lined up to take part last weekend at Boswell, Arklow in the inter-schools team show jumping competition, with the school wishing them the best of luck.

Knockbeg first years took part in an informative study skills seminar last week. They also attended a Higher Options seminar in Dublin with Mrs Foley while last Monday they headed away to Knock for a festival of prayer.

In the Junior Hurling C opening round, Knockbeg got off to a perfect start with a comprehensive 1-23 to 0-5 victory over CBS Carlow. Knockbeg team: E. Holland, R. Curran, J. Nolan, M. Dempsey, D. In the Belvedere Cross Country relays invitational event, the Minor team finished in 3rd, the Junior team in 2nd. The Intermediates and Senior teams were both to the fore of their races, with Seniors taking a win, and Knockbeg declared Overall Winners.
