In the wake of the recent disturbance outside the Portlaoise courthouse, Sean Fleming TD is renewing calls for the courthouse to be relocated to a shared new premises with the local garda station.

In the wake of the recent disturbance outside the Portlaoise courthouse, Sean Fleming TD is renewing calls for the courthouse to be relocated to a shared new premises with the local garda station.

Describing the current garda station on the town’s Abbeyleix Road as “one of the oldest and most in need of replacement divisional headquarters in the country”, Deputy Fleming said a new premises is needed for Portlaoise and suggested the local courthouse should also be incorporated into a combined new premises.

Deputy Fleming said that an ideal solution would be to utilise the building located next to the garda station, a premises which is owned by the Department of Defence.
