Laois train service boost

THE train service between Laois and Dublin is set to receive a major boost, with the introduction in 2013 of many more daily trains.

THE train service between Laois and Dublin is set to receive a major boost, with the introduction in 2013 of many more daily trains.

Commuters from Portlaoise, Portarlington and Monasterevin will see a major increase in the frequency of services as a number of Dublin/Kildare services are extended to operate Dublin/Portlaoise.

In Portlaoise, there are currently 18 trains each way daily, which will increase to 28 trains from Dublin to Portlaoise, and 30 trains from Portlaoise to Dublin. In Portarlington, there are currently 19 trains from Dublin and 23 trains to Dublin. This will increase to 30 trains from Dublin and 33 trains to Dublin. In Monasterevin, the number of trains each way will increase to 18, up from the current rate of ten trains from Dublin and five trains to Dublin.

A statement from Iarnród Éireann said: “We believe there is scope for increased travel from Portlaoise, Portarlington and Monasterevin”.
