Alleged use of hurl during house burglary

Two men have appeared before Portlaoise District Court charged with burglary at a private home in Portlaoise.

Two men have appeared before Portlaoise District Court charged with burglary at a private home in Portlaoise.

It is alleged the two Portlaoise men were carrying a hurley when the house at Cherrygarth was burgled on April 24 this year.

Thomas Conroy (41) of Lakeglen and John O’Shea (21) of O’Moore Place both appeared in court will both appear before the District Court again next month.

O’Shea was remanded in custody to December 6 and Conroy was remanded on bail to December 20.

The DPP has directed that the case may be heard in the District Court on a plea of guilty only.

Otherwise the two men are to be sent forward for trial to the Circuit Court.
