Senior citizens in Portarlington are set to get a chance to learn all they need to know about computers thanks to an initiative being run by Coláiste Íosagáin.
The school is looking for volunteers to participate in its ‘Buddy Up’ programme which involves its transition year students who will share their IT skills with older people.
The programme gets underway on Friday, February 27 at 10.05am for 8 weeks. The students will guide the internet through common computer tasks. The one–to-one aspect means students can tailor the training to suit each older person’s needs. The programme will take the older person’s initial skill level, learning pace, interests & hobbies into account & aims to build confidence and have fun surfing the net, booking holidays & organising their finances from the comfort of their own home.
