Clean up Laois

Clean Up Laois Week runs from 20 – 24 April.

This year, groups are also invited to submit before and after pictures of their hard work for inclusion in Council’s new Litter Management Plan, due for publication later on this year.

There are no bin facilities provided in the local cemetery please take your refuse home. Thank you.


The Donaghmore Community Action Group is now registered with Muintir na Tire and An Garda.

Signs have been erected at various locations in the area with additional signs to be added in the coming weeks.

The text alert system is now operational and all members have been provided with details of system and mobile phone numbers which will be used to issue text alerts. Please report any suspicious activity to your local Garda Stations in Rathdowney on 0505 46122.

Alerts to all members will then be issued by the designated mobile number.

The group is now looking at technical specifications and potential locations for CCTV cameras to be installed at strategic locations within the community and will communicate details to members in due course.

The committee wishes to thank all members for your support in establishing the text alert system and should any member have any questions or concerns please contact a member of the committee.


There was no winner in this week’s Jackpot which was €9,400. The numbers drawn were 2, 10, 15, 26.

The 10 winners of €15 were Frank Dwyer, Georgina Galvin, Emily Treacy, Mark Kavanagh, A & P O’Loughlin, Malachy Fogarty, Martin Tynan, Aaron & Ryan Costigan, Tom Nolan, Anna Bergin.

Next week’s Jackpot will be €9,550.

A great Bingo is held every Tuesday Night at 8.30 in the Rathdowney Community Centre.

Charity Dance

A charity dance in aid of National Breast Cancer Research Institute will take place in the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel on Friday, April 24.

The concert will feature Johnny Carroll and Martin Delaney,

Bealtaine Festival

A Painting workshop will take place at Rathdowney Library on Wednesday, May 13 from 3pm-5pm with Lorraine Walsh (paint will be supplied, bring your own canvas & table-top easel).
