Ballylinan’s Pauraic McEvoy got a welcome boost from his past school Knockbeg College recently, with proceeds from a tractor run donated to his volunteering trip to Uganda.

Pauraic will teach in primary schools on behalf of Nurture Africa from July 5 to 25 this summer.

The tractor run was initially in danger of not happening at all, with less students coming from farming backgrounds according to teacher Philip Cody.

“There were stages as to whether or not it could go ahead, however, on the day it all fell into place,” he said.

The day featured ten tractors new and old. It raised €850, a third of which was donated to Pauraic’s trip, a third to Saplings School for children with Autism and complex needs in Graiguecullen, and the rest to The Irish Cancer Society. “Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and money was raised, a complete success,” said Mr Cody.
