€8 million deal sealed to build Portlaoise schools

The construction firm Western Building Group has won a contract worth €8m to build three new schools in Portlaoise under the Department of Education and Skills’ New Framework for Rapid Build Schools and the builder involved has promised to complete the job on time.

The construction firm Western Building Group has won a contract worth €8m to build three new schools in Portlaoise under the Department of Education and Skills’ New Framework for Rapid Build Schools and the builder involved has promised to complete the job on time.

The Co Tyrone company says work on the new project will begin immediately and will involve the construction of two 16 classroom schools with a Sports Hall and Special Needs Units for Portlaoise Educate Together National School and Gaelscoil Portlaoise, and a new four classroom school for Maryborough National School.

Martin McCloskey is chief executive of Western construction.

“Western has a solid track record in delivering major construction projects ahead of schedule. The company completed a new school at Lucan 20 weeks ahead of schedule,” he said.

The company completed an extension to the primary school in Portarlington, Co Laois last year.
