A WOMAN who drunkenly abused her own father was last week put on probation at the district court.

Ozlet Muwaniri, 73 Crann Nua, Portarlington, was charged with being intoxicated and using threatening or abusive behaviour, at Crann Nua, Edenderry Road, Port, on January 28, 2011.

Garda Colm Coffey gave evidence that Muwaniri was drunk and disorderly in her father’s house, and when the gardaí removed her from the house she continued to shout abuse back at her father.

She has seven previous convictions, for public order offences.

Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick said that Muwaniri continues to live with her parents and has taken her drinking in hand. Muwaniri, a Zimbabwean national who has been living in Ireland for 12 years, is now attending with her GP.

“She completed her leaving cert and is a very bright girl,” said Ms Fitzpatrick.

Ms Fitzpatrick pointed out that the incident had occurred over two years ago and Muwaniri had come to no further garda attention.

Judge Catherine Staines applied the probation act.
