The occupants of a house in the Portarlington had to be evacuated last week during a small fire in their home.

Fire crews from Port and Mountmellick were called to the scene in the early hours of Tuesday morning (April 16).

Acting chief fire officer Declan Power said that a small fire broke out in the living room of the house on the Bishops Wood Road, at around 10am. Mr Power said that the blaze may have been caused by something falling out of the open fire.

Fire damage was small.

The occupants of the house were evacuated while fire fighters extinguished the flames and damage to the property was minimal.

“It was nothing major,” said Mr Power.
