The senior citizens of Mountrath got a warm welcome to the community school before Christmas, for an enjoyable day of music and good cheer.

On December 11, the transition year students held a wonderful Christmas party for the golden years club.

Mountrath Community school choir performed seasonal carols, followed by some singalong Christmas songs led by teacher Seamus McLoughney.

“It’s a traditional party that the transition year students do every year and it really is one of the best events on the transition year calendar,” said Sadbh Hanniffy.

Earlier in the month, the transition year students organised an enterprising Christmas market to the local community, selling hand crafted jewellery, cakes, hats and Christmas gifts, helped by business teachers Evelyn Geary and Rita Moore.
