Legal action on derelict pub

Laois County council are commencing legal action against the receiver for the derelict Whites Pub, in Borris-in-Ossory.

Laois County council are commencing legal action against the receiver for the derelict Whites Pub, in Borris-in-Ossory.

Cllr Brendan Phelan requested measures to “address the dangerous state of the building”, at the March meeting of Borris-in-Ossory Municipal District.

A Dangerous Structure Notice under Sanitary Services Act 1964 was served in November 2014 but works have not not been carried out to date.

Cllr Phelan welcomed the action.

“This is going on for a couple of years. There are slates and plaster coming down thirty foot. People are standing outside the pub next door, and watching it coming down from a height. I am glad this is being addressed,” he said.

The council reply to his motion is as follows.

“Dangerous Structure Notice under Sanitary Services Act 1964 served in November 2014 on receiver for Whites Pub. Works not carried out to date. LCC commencing legal action against receiver”.
