The council should carry out improvements to the halting site in Portlaoise if they intend to keep it open, according to Cllr Willie Aird.
At last week’s meeting of Laois County Council, Cllr Aird asked the council what they were doing at the halting site.
“I heard that you were reconnecting the electricity, but I thought you were going to rehome the two families left there and then close the site.
“There has been more activity there lately,” he said.
“If that’s not the case, can you do some work on the halting site, as it doesn’t look well at all,” he said.
Cllr Aird said there had been more activity at the halting site recently.
The Council’s Housing officer, Michael Rainey said the council had plans to rehome the family that were living at the halting site, but unfortunately the family would not leave.
“We are examining other options for the family, but it is subject to funding,” he said.
Mr Rainey said Electric Ireland were repairing a failed connection at the site, but there was no plans to carry out other work at the site.
