Portlaoise is new VEC HQ

Following a big local campaign Portlaose is to be new headquarters of the megerd Laois/Offaly VEC.

Welcoming the news, Fine Gael TD, Charlie Flanagan said he was pleased that Portlaoise had been selected as the headquarters for the enlarged and merged headquarters.

“We are building on what is body within the educational system. Portlaoise is a long establised public sector town and the location of the enlarged headquarters will enhance this status further.

“This is an exciting time for vocational education in the area of formal educational training and I wish all those associated the very best for the future,” Deputy Flanagan said.

At last month meeting of Laois VEC, chairperson Cllr Mary Sweeney said she hoped Portlaoise would be the location for the new headquarters, as it had a lot to offer.

It had been feared that Portlaoise would loose out to Mullingar when it was originally announced that Offaly, Laois and Westmeath would be merged.
