A Donaghmore woman has helped secure 1,000 jobs for Louth has been introduced to the county manager with a view to bringing jobs Laois.

Donaghmore native Louise Phelan is vice president of PayPal Europe, the company this week announced the 1,000 jobs in Dundalk.

Ms Phelan manages the Irish operation of PayPal which currently employs more than 1,500 people at its European headquarters in Blanchardstown in Dublin. She is also the sister of Laois county Cllr Brendan Phelan who said

“I introduced Louise to the Laois County Manager recently and I have asked her to consider Laois in the company’s future operations”, he said.

PayPal, which was founded in 1998 is owned by e-bay and is seen as the global leader in online payment. The positions in Louth will be filled over the next four years. PayPal has been in Ireland since 2003.
