Laois Offaly TD Charlie Flanagan has expressed his delight following his appointment by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny as leader of the Fine Gael group on the Constitutional Convention.
The Convention is due to consider a number of issues over the coming 12 months and the first meeting is due to take place place in Dublin Castle on Saturday (1st December) “I am delighted to be involved in this unprecedented forum, which will discuss key issues of Constitutional relevance over the coming months. The establishment of the Convention represents an innovative approach by the Government to reform Bunreacht na hÉireann.
“It is extremely important that the majority of members of the Convention will be made up by members of the public. Sixty-six members of the public will be involved, together with thirty-three elected representatives,” said the Fine Gael party chairman.
Meetings of the convention will take place over one weekend every month during 2013. Plenary sessions will be streamed live at www.constitution.ie
