One per cent speak Irish in Laois daily

Less than one per cent of the Irish people living in Laois speak their native language ach day.

According to Census 2011, 769 persons in Laois speak Irish on a daily basis outside of the education system.

This accounts for 1% of the total population (aged 3 and over), which is 0.8% below the state average of 1.8%.

A total of 31,311 persons in Laois (41% of the population), indicated that they could speak Irish.

This is on par with the national average.
