New bus shelters have being requested for towns and villages across Laois by Brian Stanley TD.
The National Transport Authority is considering his ten suggestions for inclusion on their priority list this year.
“At a time when we are trying to promote the use of public transport, the travelling public are entitled to expect basic facilities to protect them from the elements. With our inclement weather, having to stand at the side of the road in the cold wind and heavy rain is a strong deterrent for many who use bus services and this is simply not acceptable in a modern transport system, “ he said.
Up for possible new shelters are Mountmellick, Stradbally, Borris in Ossory, Castletown, Mountrath, Ballybrittas, Monasterevin, Cullahill, Durrow, Crettyard and Ballylinan.
The TD says he is hopeful for success, despite the NTA having a tight budget.
