IT was the end of an area for Laois VEC last week as they held their last ever meeting before being dissolved.

Laois VEC will now be replaced with the Laois Offaly Education and Training Board (ETB). VEC CEO Anne O’ Keefe told the meeting held in Abbeyleix Further Education Centre that “these changes are very significant for the education and training sector and give rise to many challenges”. She added that every VEC member holding office immediately before establishment day will become a member of the ETB.

The VECs in Laois and Offaly will be dissolved on July 1.

Committee chairperson Mary Sweeney said that the last meeting was “very productive” and that she very much welcomed the new development. She added that everything will stay the same for committee members until after the local elections in May next year. The first meeting of the Laois Offaly ETB will be held in July.
