Fine Gael TD Charlie Flanagan was accused of not doing enough to pass on concerns about windfarms to his party leader.
An audience member in Ballyroan said Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s dismissal of public fears of “alarmist” proved he was unaware of community feeling in Laois.
“Since that I have arranged for representatives to address the FG parliamentary party and all our TDs,” Dep Flanagan replied.
He added that he wrote to Coillte requesting the withdrawal of their application until guidelines were revised.
“I have no response yet. I have asked Minister Rabbitte for an independent study on the effects. I have spoken to Minister Hogan and asked him to bring forward the planning consultation process,” he added.
Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley said the “pause button” must be pressed.
“Stop this madness and get regulations in place, stop communities like this being steamrolled,” he said, warning that landowners considering deals “needed to be very careful”.
“These companies have the best legal advice with money to back it up,” he said.
