Work has started on a drainage problem which it is hoped will tackle a long standing draingage problem in Shanahoe
Work started on the €50,000 project last Tuesday and is expected to take a number of weeks to complete. Two locations have been flooding badly and this has affected local residents. It has also hampered the Shanahoe Tidy Towns Committee.
The flooding has also affected school children and restricted funerals.
Brian Stanley TD, welcomed the work.
“Shanahoe doesn’t have a drainage system and in recent years the problems of flooding have got much worse, with one location under water for much of the year.
“As far as I am aware, this is the only village in Laois that has almost permanent flooding and is without a drainage scheme,” he said.
The project includes new drainage from village centre and from Clash Cross.
