The overwhelming vote in favour of blue for the colour of Mountmellick’s new entrance signs had Fine Gael members of the Town Council delighted at support of the ‘blueshirts’.

“Everybody has to wear blue shirts to meetings now,” quipped FG cllr Ollie Payne.

The new signs will be erected on the entrance roads from Portlaoise, Tullamore, Portarlington and Rosenallis. They feature the town crest and a wooden planter around the base.

“Maura Reddin from Mountmellick Tidy Towns agrees to maintain the flowerboxes, it will add that extra dimension to the town,” said Cllr Bobby Delaney.

“I would like to thank Pamela (Tynan, town clerk) for coming up with the design, I love it,” said Cllr Rosemary Whelan.
