More than €1.5 million has been spent in grants on making Laois homes warmer and more energy efficient.

More than €1.5 million has been spent in grants on making Laois homes warmer and more energy efficient.

Since 2010 some 1,900 homes have benifed from the Better Homes Energy Scheme supports homeowners with the cost of the attic and wall installation, heating system upgrades including solar thermal.

However, Dáil figures also showed that grants have fallen from 210 when 755 householders benifed to last year when some 120 applicants got grants.

Some 1,200 homes benifed from the Better Energy Warmer Homes Scheme since 2010. It delivers a range of energy efficiency measures to low income households.

The number who got grants under this scheme also fell dramatically from 622 four years ago to 80 to last November.
